Herpetology

The note, that "a snake is a reptile", is (I would venture to suggest) no help whatsoever to the question asker. Are they supposed to accept "snakes" as an answer, or not?

I would suggest not, as there's a separate word for the study of snakes, which is a branch of herpetology. It's ophiology (or ophidology).
